THREE THINGS WE CAN GIVE TO GOD

When it’s all said and done, we have three things we can all offer to God: our treasure, our talent and our time.

First, there is our treasure.

I urge you to commit yourself to give faithfully and generously to the Lord. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”.

The second thing we can give to God is our talent.

God has gifted each believer in different ways. Everyone has something to offer for the work of the kingdom. Romans 12 says, “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us different work to do”.

Finally, there is our time.

Let’s say that one day your phone rang and it was the president of the bank that you use. He told you that an anonymous donor who loved you very much had decided to deposit 86,400 pennies into your bank account every morning. That may sound like fantasy, but here’s the reality. Every morning, Our Heavenly Father who loves you very much deposits into your “bank of time” 86,400 seconds, which represent 1,440 minutes, which of course equals 24 hours each and every day.

God gives you that much time to use each day. Nothing is ever carried over on credit to the next day. There is no such thing as a 27- hour day. It’s called time, and can’t escape it. Time is ticking away right now. The Bible tells us to “redeem the time” – to make sacred and wise use of every opportunity.

Offer God your treasure, your talent and your time.

Eph 5:15-16  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

CHURCH FAMILY

I am excited to be the Pastor of a church family that is able to step out of the past and reach for the future.  I always preach that our past limits us and that growth awaits us in the future, however there is a past here that is pretty awesome.  God has used this church family to reach way beyond our grasp and touch the lives of a lot of families. Also, many people have accepted Christ as their personal Savior through the ministry of this church family.

Now we cannot look longingly at the days gone by when folks flocked to churches just because the doors were open.  The churches that exist and thrive in the future will be those who are relevant to their community and the world around them.  We have a decision to make now – If we are the Community Church then shouldn’t we act like it.  We don’t need to rename the buildings to “LANNIE COMMUNITY CHURCH” – Either WE ARE the Community of Lannie Road or WE ARE NOT.  A name or a title does not make it so.  We must live it out daily, we have to live like it, the community will know us by our works.  In a time when so much of the time someone else gets to define who you are – now it is our time, we get to decide who we are.  There are no limits except those we place on ourselves.  We can raise money for buildings, we can house a food pantry for the community, we can train children in the Christian ideals, we can teach teenagers to become young adults, we can challenge young adults to honor Christ and we can even hold community events – these are all ministries we are doing.  We have one challenge from Jesus - be a city set on a hill for all to see. He said do not hide your light under a bushel.  Your light individually matters. That is what makes our corporate light bright.  This community needs a church that has an outward focus and lights the way of Christ.

WE ARE LANNIE ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH...good, bad or indifferent.  I choose good. I challenge you to choose good. Christ demands we choose good by His sacrifice.  But simply put, it is YOUR CHOICE by your deeds that will make us who we are.  If you and I can say I am God’s then we will answer the call of the ministry given to Lannie Road Baptist Church and our past will pale in comparison to our future as we serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Church, We Have a Problem!

“Houston, we have a problem.”  This is the phrase that was made famous when an electrical malfunction occurred during the Apollo 13 Space mission in 1970.  Since then, it was used in the 1995 movie, “Apollo 13″.  When it comes to space quotations, "Houston, we have a problem" is right up there with "Beam me up Scotty"!

With that introduction, I come to you and say, “Church, we have a problem”!  Yet I don’t want to call it a problem … how about, “a concern”!  But then on the other hand, “Church, we have a praise”!  The situation is this:  For many years, the prayers from this church family were for God to bring children (and families with children) into this church.  God has been answering prayers in exciting ways!  We have many young families worshiping with us and that includes infants, young children and teens.

With the growing number of students in our children and youth ministries, God has placed an awesome responsibility upon us.  Proverbs 22:6 reminds us to “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  That does not mean that our children will never go astray, but it does teach us that as parents and as a church, we must continually be guiding our children and youth to the Lord and those teachings will deeply rooted in their hearts for the rest of their lives.

“Church, we have an opportunity”! As more families come into the church, the needs of our children and youth ministries grow.  To teach our children and youth effectively, we need your help!  We need teachers, assistant teachers, recreation helpers, drivers to events and most of all, prayer warriors. Is God calling you to help in one or more of these areas?

I ask that you seriously pray about how God will use you in one of these growing and exciting ministries. In fact, you are invited to our teachers and youth workers meeting today and see what I’m talking about.

Church, we have a problem . . . and what a blessing it is!

CHURCH COVENANT

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Saviour.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Saviour to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.

GRACE

I find it interesting in the Bible how Paul was such a clear thinker and such a  Spiritual Man.

Think this through with me.

He spoke of all he did for Christ – his shipwrecks and his beatings – all of it. Many times even saying he gave more than them all. On and on he went. He could have easily been misconstrued as “prideful”.  He actually said he was the Chief of All Apostles and then said He was the Chief Sinner too. Yet God put it in the Bible… Amazing.

In Romans chapter 7, he actually is honest enough to say he does the things he does not want to do, and does not do what he wants to do. Incredible honesty. That being said – isn’t that true of all of us? We sin one moment and do great righteousness the next. We do great righteousness one moment and then sin the following moment. I know this applies to me.

I can say I am a walking testimony of God’s grace. I truly get what I do not deserve. The word Grace actually means, “unmerited favor”. I can honestly say I’ve lived in this favor. I haven’t done anything to deserve this favor nor am I more righteous than others. I’ve simply received blessings by a God full of mercy. He has placed me in the right places at the right times to make the right decisions and sometimes I’ve failed – only to see God still working and showing His favor toward me.

And yet, I live in this favor……..Why?.........Because of God’s GRACE.

I trust today that you and I will understand that it's not about you or me and never will be. May we love Jesus and thank Him for His Grace like never before.

A NEW YEAR

It is time again to start the new year with optimism, hope and resolutions. Some of us do not want to make promises because we ourselves abandon them. It is time to be serious with our commitments, with the help of God we can keep our promises. This New Year let me offer some suggestions of a way to significantly change our life.  My first suggestion is taken from Romans 6:2, “God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” We are no longer slaves to sin.

Commit to turn your back on your transgressions. We were once slaves to sin but now we are set free, so live a life free from sin. Jesus broke the power of sin, the Holy Spirit can give us the power to resist sin.  My second suggestion is taken from Philippians 3:13,14 “ …forgetting those things which are behind… press toward the mark …”

Commit to forget your Past Failures. God is telling us not to live our life imprisoned by our past. The past is gone and the new has come. All of us have failed in some way in our lives over the last year. Many failures are painful memories of failed relationships, wrong decisions, what was said and did.  Lastly, my third suggestion is taken from Colossians 3:13-“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

God says commit yourself to give up your grudge. What is a grudge? It is a deep resentment that we nurture in our heart against someone. A grudge is unforgiving spirit, unforgiving attitude, and unforgiving actions. Grudges are dangerous because it is destructive. It can destroy marriages, break up families, ruin friendships and split churches. They are not only destructive but self-destructive, too. If you keep harboring a grudge then it will eventually destroy you, physically, emotional and spiritually. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

CHRISTIAN NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

Instead of making resolutions about things which will pass away or do only good to yourself, how about making some resolutions which will help you be a better Christian in 2012? Everyone is different and has different talents and spiritual needs, but here are a few suggestions:

You may not be able to do all these things, and you may have others you know you need to make. That's all right. Remember to not beat yourself up and get discouraged if sometimes you fail or you forget. Ask God for forgiveness and strength and start again.

Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

A MARY CHRISTMAS

I pray that you have a “Mary” Christmas! That’s right a “Mary” Christmas! In Luke 10:38-42, we find the story of Jesus in the home of Mary and Martha. Martha got distracted by all the details, but Mary was devoted to her Lord. Mary liked nothing more than to sit at Jesus’ feet and worship Him. Please don’t get so distracted by all the “details” of the Christmas season that you lose your devotion to your Savior. This Christmas and always, be a true worshipper of Jesus!

At Christmas, we see the way the world celebrates and the way a disciple of Jesus Christ celebrates. They are vastly different. The world celebrates a “holiday,” but the Christian celebrates a Savior. As a Christian, I often dislike the word “holiday,” but when you really think about it, what a “Holy” day it is! If Christ had not come into this world as our savior, we would have no hope today.

We were in need of salvation, so God sent us a Savior. Christmas is about celebrating the Savior.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  Luke 2:10-11

This Christ-mas I pray you have more of Christ and not less of Christ. May Jesus truly be the reason for the season! From my family to yours, have a “Mary” Christmas! More of Christ! Stay Devoted to HIM! INAM (It’s Not About Me) – It’s all about HIM!

MY LITTLE CHURCH

Last Sunday made me feel happy. We had sung good hymns, preached God’s Word, and baptized a few believers.

Before we go any further some words need explanation. The word “my” is not technically correct. The church belongs to Jesus Christ. He is the Head of the church and does not share that position with anyone else. My church is the one where I am a member, attend, and serve as the pastor. The word “little” is a comparative term. The church where we are active participants is not as big as a lot of churches, but it is larger than many others. In comparison to what are known as “mega-churches” (thousands in attendance), “little” is the appropriate word. Little does not imply inferior, weak, or unimportant.

I love my little church. It is not perfect. No church is. But it is filled with people who crave the exposition of God’s Word, who serve faithfully, who give generously, who pray regularly, who share the gospel with their families, friends, and neighbors, and who respond to the needs of others. Sunday school teachers labor week after week to pass on God’s eternal truth to the next generation. My little church is a big encouragement to me.

Does my little church need to grow in grace, change, be ready to reinvent itself, repent, and seek revival? It does, if it is going to be the kind of church that pleases Jesus Christ. The words of the Head of the church must always be bound up in our self-examination. There is the danger of leaving our first love. The church must beware of any tolerance of doctrinal error. It must be on guard against the sins of the culture becoming sins of the church. Spiritual deadness and lukewarmness are an ever present danger. I love my church so much that I pray daily that we will not dishonor the Lord of the church. May God grant us joyful persistence in seeking the lost, building up the saints, and planting other little churches throughout the world.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

FALL IN LOVE WITH GOD

God really paints a beautiful Fall for us, doesn’t He? The horizon is decorated with leaves transitioning from green to orange, to brown and crimson, even purple, and all the colors in between that spectrum while the evergreens stay green and provide a striking backdrop for the God-given beauty.

The ironic thing about autumn’s beauty is that it comes to us as a result of death. It is only in the dying of the leaves and metamorphosis creates their beauty. Death seems like kind of a strange way to remind us of God’s love. No one was ever supposed to die, but as God shows us through nature, beauty and glory come through death. That’s why God became one of us. His Word supports this as well in 2 Timothy 1:10, Paul is telling Timothy is that Christ has destroyed the power that death had over us. Prior to that and without God’s gift of faith, death means destruction; death means eternal separation from God and anything good. The Gospel changes everyone who doesn’t reject it. God’s Word illuminates our sinful condition and His response to it, so that we need not fear even death’s darkness. In I Corinthians 15:22 it says, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” You see, Glory, that is, eternal life and perfection, comes through death. Death is the result of sin; life the result of grace.

Fall beauty always fades; the leaves will drop, and the horizon will be bleak once again. This year, let those fading colors and bare branches remind you of another bare tree: the cross, where the red blood has now faded to dust-brown, and the branches are indeed bare because He is risen! All suffering and death, especially yours, should act as a catalyst to bring you closer to the One who willingly suffered and died for you.

It is my prayer that you chose this time of year to get closer to Him and “Fall” in love with God.

HAVE YOU REPENTED LATELY?

Christians in Eastern Europe and Russia are sometimes referred to as “repenters.” What is the significance of this? It is an act of repentance when a non-Christian turns from his false objects of trust to Christ. The Hebrew and Greek words for repentance mean to turn from something to pursue something else. It is a change of direction, or as the Greek word indicates, a change of mind. God calls the sinner to a radical reversal of thinking and desires.

When you “change your mind” and turn from your “dead works” and turn toward God and faith in Christ Jesus, eternal life becomes yours. Repentance was preached and practiced by Old Testament saints. John the Baptist preached repentance. Jesus preached repentance.

But there is more. Repentance is not only the turning from the old life of unbelief to faith in Christ. It is to become a way of life for the Christian. The believer in Jesus Christ is going to sin and when he does he must repent (Luke17:4). Repentance is no easy thing, but it is a necessary thing. What are we to do when we cheat on a test, lie to the IRS, or starve ourselves to look thin. We must repent.

Repentance is a hard work and can only be accomplished by God’s grace. If you truly belong to Christ, then the waters of repentance will flow out of your heart. You will want to be nearer and nearer to God. Your sin will haunt you. True repentance is a gut wrenching “throwing-up” of the sin that has been committed against a holy God. When we have repented there will be concern for what sin has done to us and what it has done to others. How has our bitterness, lust, deceit, laziness, lack of witness for Christ, greed, and the love-affair with ourselves harmed others? Repenters must get this vile stuff out of their spiritual stomachs. It is only then that restoration of appetite for God and growth in Christ can proceed as it should. Have you repented lately?

Eze 18:30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

A HEALTHY CHURCH

The physical health of our population is a major concern in the media and in popular culture. Diets, nutrition, and exercise occupy our national attention. This is all well and good. We should all aspire to take care of the only body we will have in this life. But is not the spiritual health of the church of Jesus Christ a greater concern to Christians? It ought to be. Christians are nourished on the words of the faith. Sound teaching is of paramount importance if a church is to function as it should. When the Bible is taught as it should be and lived out in daily life, the result will be a properly functioning church, i.e., a healthy church.

A healthy church is driven by a deep desire to please God and live under the authority of His Word in all its work. A well-fed church is one that is served generous portions of the whole counsel of God. All the spiritual vitamins and minerals needed are found in Genesis to Revelation.

A healthy church meets regularly in order to worship, to become spiritually equipped, and to stimulate encouragement. Holiness of life does not come by merely spending time at church, but by transformation that takes place in the heart.

A healthy church is composed of believers who are spiritually gifted and who joyfully serve the living God. A spiritual gift is a God-given ability to serve the body of Christ in some special way. There are no ungifted Christians. You say, what is my gift? The best answer is to start serving and see what happens.

Lord, we pray that you would infuse our church with spiritual health so that we will have the strength and endurance to bear the weight of the world and walk the road into your heavenly presence.

1  Corinthians 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

Financing the Great Commission

Our use of money tells about where we are in our love for God.

God built into Israel’s social, economic, and religious life the matter of priorities. In the nation of Israel God was to be at the very center of thinking, plans, and possessions (time and money).

We are accountable to God for the way we use our money.

It is more important to lay up treasures in heaven than to accumulate treasure on earth. What are the treasures in heaven? This is everything that believers can take with them beyond the grave (e.g. holiness of character, obedience to God’s commandments, souls won for Christ, disciples nurtured in the faith).

Generosity is the mark of a heaven-bound child of God.

Believers must give to provide for the costs of administering the work of the church. Our giving habits are to be a personal responsibility, proportionate to our income, voluntary, and carefully administered by the church.

Giving to the church is an act of worship.

The church is to assume the responsibility of contributing to the support of those who are involved in the work of the Great Commission.

Evangelism involves a commitment from our entire church family.

Every believer is to excel in the grace of giving consistently, generously, and joyfully. Financing the Great Commission comes down to how seriously we take God. Am I a good manager of the assets God has placed in my hands? Am I avoiding debt? Is my life-style creating opportunities to give to God?

The combined gifts in our church are a sweet offering to God. God-enabled giving is an expression of how much we love Him.

The Great Commission at Lannie Road Baptist Church is funded by our giving. Come, let us give as we wait for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.  Malachi 3:10  Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

THE POWER OF OUR GOD

Neh 6:9  For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

Neh 6:15  So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.

Neh 6:16  And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.

The enemies of the Israelites led by Sanballat and Tobiah, had a plan ... to discourage the people of God from completing their task. If the Israelites gave up, the enemies of the Lord would have reason to rejoice. It would be chalked up as a victory against the God followers.

You see, there's one thing that Sanballat and Tobiah had right: Israel did indeed have the potential to rebuild what was once destroyed. Finishing the task would find the Temple once again magnificent. And the only way to stop that from happening was for them to discourage the people away from what they had the capacity and the calling to do. The enemy knew what was in them, but the question was whether or not the people knew.

But if the Israelites would press through, the opposite would take place. They ultimately do, and the Scriptures give us this result: “when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.”  (Nehemiah 6:16)

As we ready ourselves to return to what God has called each of us to do, we need to understand and listen for the enemy's reproaches. We need to be ever mindful that it is the same message today as it was way back then. I love the way that Nehemiah summarizes their threats: Neh 6:  For they all made us afraid, saying, “Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done."

But I prayed, "Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands."

The enemy knew ... But did they? Our enemy knows … But do we?

If so, this should be our prayer as well ... that God would also strengthen our hands to complete the work He has called each of us to do; that we would not drop out of our potential but see His calling in each of us fully completed. Like Caleb, we should desire and want to "follow Him fully." And in the end, the people will realize that it was God that was acting on our behalf ... not we ourselves.

So dear Father, I too pray with Nehemiah that You would "strengthen my hands" and when our enemies see the work completed, they will exclaim that it could only have been done so by ..."The Power of our God."

THE TROUBLE WITH SIN

Maybe you can understand and sympathize with me over the way I have at times viewed sin. When I look back at the end of a day, examine my actions and thoughts of that day I find it quite easy to say, well, I didn’t sin much today. I mean, I didn’t lie, I didn’t steal, I didn’t lust, I didn’t act out of anger towards anyone, therefore I didn’t sin.

Recently I’ve been puzzled by how easily I can look at myself and think that I have done a relatively good job and yet Paul says that “He is the chief of sinners” (I Timothy 1:15) Notice that Paul does not say that he was chief, no he says that he is currently chief. Paul recognized his daily sinfulness and utter failure before God. Therefore I think it might be wise for us to reevaluate sin in our lives and not underestimate the amount of sin that occurs daily.

The following quote really grabbed my attention: “Sin is any failure to conform to God’s Holy law. We are talking here about both action and attitude. The apostle John put it like this: “sin is the transgression of the law” (I John 3:4). Therefore, we sin when we do, say, or think anything that God commands us not to. Likewise, we sin when we do not do, say, or think what God commands us to do. The slightest departure from absolute obedience to God’s law is sin.”

Therefore, let us begin to think correctly about sin and recognize that we’ve looked at ourselves as better than we are and so may we humbly fall before God.

“NUTS IN THE CEMETERY”

The following is just for fun.

It was submitted to me by Bro. Dale James.

On the outskirts of a small Georgia town, stands a big old pecan tree just inside of a cemetery fence. One day two boys picked up a bucket full of nuts and started dividing them, saying, “One for you and one for me.” Several of the nuts rolled down the hill and toward the fence. Along came a boy on a bicycle. Passing by the cemetery he heard voices from inside. He slowed down to investigate and sure enough he heard voices, “one for you and one for me.” He was pedaling hard to get away when just around the bend there was an old man hobbling along. “Come quick,” the boy begged, I just heard the Lord and Satan dividing up the souls.” “Beat it kid, can’t you see it’s hard for me to even walk?” But the young boy insisted. So they walked up to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, “one for you, one for me, one for you, one for me…” The old man whispered, “boy I think you were telling the truth, let’s see if we can see the Lord!” Shaking with fear, they poked their heads through the fence but couldn’t see anything. Just then they heard, “One for you and one for me, okay that’s all of them, now let’s go get the nuts by the fence and we’ll be done.”

They say that the old man made it back to town a full five minutes before the boy on the bike did.

I just thought you’d enjoy.

REVIVAL

The 1828 Webster’s dictionary states that Revival is “renewed and more active attention to religion; an awakening of men to their spiritual concerns.” This week has been just that for me and I think for many of you also.

It would seem to me that in today’s society the church has reckoned a successful ministry to be one that grows in size and finances. And so to reach that goal we (the church of today) have sought for the quickest and easiest way to achieve that result. We offer more and more programs, more diverse groups, as we seek to generate more enthusiasm through exciting and entertaining events.

My question would be, “what is wrong with having programs, groups and events in the church?” My answer would be, “nothing as far as I can tell.” I perceive that the real problem lies in the motivation behind having the programs, groups and events. In other words, the end should never justify the means. We should not trust in our methods to build numbers and/or finances for then all we are is another organization seeking to attract more people and their money (not much different than an amusement park).

Our motivation to be more active Christians has to lie in personal revival, I mean a personal awakening of each of us to our individual spiritual concern. “What does God have for me to do and what does He want me to become?” has to be the driving force behind a true reformation of our walk with God.

So why don’t you choose today to do like David of old did and ask the Lord to search your heart and revive us again!

Psa 51:9  Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

Psa 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Psa 51:11  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Psa 51:12  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Psa 51:13  Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee

STEWARDSHIP

Below is an excerpt from an article on stewardship. I pray that you are both blessed and challenged.

Stewardship is the “root canal” of sermon topics. Most every Pastor dreads it, yet he knows that it is necessary, even essential to teach foundational truth regarding stewardship in our overly-materialistic culture. In recent months the topic has taken on significance in many churches as economic conditions weigh on congregations. Many pastors have been caught flat-footed with tithes and offerings diminishing as unemployment rises. How does a pastor approach stewardship in a meaningful, practical and impactful way to grow a congregation’s understanding of it? First we must understand its importance: the Bible contains more than 2,300 verses related to money and possessions. In fact, God’s Word speaks about money more than faith, more than prayer, more than heaven and hell. God’s teaching on money is clear and confronts the reader when considering how we steward our resources. The pastor should never apologize for teaching on stewardship. If it is that important to God, then it has much weight and importance for us. Second it must be intentional: Simply put, proper stewardship enables the ministry of the church to be most effective. Conducting our lives in the context of the gospel costs money. A Christ-follower must have a mindset that constantly examines his wealth and asks, “How am I stewarding this for God’s glory?” The use of the word “wealth” is intentional. The average Christian in North America makes over $42,000 a year, which puts you in the top 2.5% of all wage earners worldwide. If you have a roof over your head, food more than once a day, clean water and clothes, then you are rich by the world’s standards. When we intentionally step back and see the big picture in terms of world resources, we begin to understand how stewarding our enormous wealth is of paramount importance. Lastly it should accountable: Your pastor, as your God-ordained leader, must be willing to ask people to give to their church body in support of the ministry. There is a percentage of the congregation that will only give when asked to do so. Accountability can be helpful in growing believers in their stewardship. Most churches send out “giving statements” every few months to contributors for their tax purposes. Maybe your church should send out statements to those who give little or nothing, to gently remind them that stewardship is a vital part of the life of every believer.

II Corithians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

YOUR EVERLASTING CHURCH

Sometimes we need a reminder of what our purpose is. Are we just some sort of club that meets together for the satisfaction of feeling better about ourselves? Are we fulfilling some spiritual or moral obligation?

I believe that we are a church that is going forward with God and it is time that we realize that God is only pleased when we are giving Him our best.

During this year’s revival services I have asked the Lord to pierce our hearts with an awakening to why we do what we do! We are His church and we have the Victory.

Praise You, dear Lord, for Your everlasting church.  No matter what it has gone through in the past, no matter what it may face in the future, Your church is triumphant.  It remains true and strong here on earth and shall continue to live triumphantly in heaven.  Praise You, O Lord!  Praise You for Your holy church now and through eternity. Amen and amen!

(Jesus said,) “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20

(Jesus said,)  “Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”

Ephesians 5:30  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Join me in praying for this church to follow the leadership of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as part of His Holy and Eternal Church.

Do all the good you can,

By all the means you can,

In all the ways you can,

In all the places you can,

At all the times you can,

To all the people you can,

As long as ever you can.

THANKFUL TO GOD FOR YOU

It is the joy in the heart of a pastor to give thanks to God for those whom God has given unto him to shepherd over when those sheep prove to be faithful to the faith which is in Jesus Christ. Paul rejoiced for the faithfulness and commitment of the steadfast believers in the Philippian church. There are those in this church that have committed themselves to the work of the ministry as co-laborers with this Pastor and with God Himself. To see souls saved, believers strengthened and the Gospel proclaimed as the only way to the cross. Paul defined these faithful ones as “your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now.” Philippians 1:5.

Consistent and dependable to carry on the work of the ministry in bad times as well as good is what is being commended. It is not surprising that many will get on board and seem to be supportive when all things are going well and there is prosperity in the church. But when times get tough and the emotionalism is not there to propel you to activity, you may withdraw and become AWOL (absent without leave). It is a lot like when a sports team starts having a stellar season, you will find that people who are not even remotely interested in sports will become “avid” fans (at least as long as the streak lasts). Do you really consider them to be supporters?

This Pastor’s Corner is meant to encourage and commend all of the “fans” who are there in thick and thin. Ministry workers who are stepping up their commitment to serve with all their heart and all their resources will not go without reward. Paul mentions in verse 7 that there will be a payday and that all will be rewarded based on faithfulness to the ministry of the Body of Christ “ye are all partakers of my grace.”

The Jesus Way

And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.—Mark 1:35

Ever have one of those hectic days when you need more time than the clock offers? When everyone is after you for help and your tasks seem endless? You might wonder: Did Jesus ever struggle like this? And if so, how did He handle it?

Consider the day in Jesus' life recorded in Mark 1:21-34. It began with a visit to the synagogue to teach, which He did with authority. Then things got rough. A demon-possessed man started shouting at Jesus. Calmly but sternly the Teacher cast out the demon.

When Jesus left the synagogue, He and His friends went to Peter's house. But He couldn't rest; Peter's mother-in-law was sick and needed His healing touch. Later, the entire town gathered outside so Jesus could heal more sick people and cast out more demons. It must have been a tiring day.

How did Jesus respond? Did He take the next day off? Head for the cool mountain streams of Caesarea Philippi? No, the next day He got up before sunrise, found a solitary place, and prayed. He sought the rejuvenating power of His Father's presence.

How do you handle a tough day? Get alone with God and seek His help. Start your day the Jesus way.

EVERYTHING MATTERS

1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Everything we do matters! It doesn’t matter if you are a preacher, deacon, Sunday school teacher, or whatever other name you may put on everything we do matters if it is for the glory of God. We can live for the Lord or for the world so it matters what we do and it is a choice you have to make. As long as we are doing it for the glory of the Lord that is what counts. Everything should be done for the glory of the Lord! If we do that then we can not go wrong, some one will be lead to Christ! What we do for God is what people see and this brings them to God. You do not have to be a famous preacher or singer, just some one who does everything for the glory of God. In all things we should bring glory to our Lord. That means our jobs, mowing the grass, having to get up early, or whatever else you may do should bring glory to the Lord. We should be living for Him! This means we have to have a true Christian attitude in everything we do. So what you do or whatever your title may be does not matter if it is not for the glory of the Lord!

This is why the scriptures tell us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. The real evidence of the new birth in a Christian’s life is the fruit of the Spirit that is made visible for others to see. It so easy to say that you are a Christian but it is a whole different thing to find those that show their Christian faith through their lives.

Go and be Jesus to somebody Today!

I want to share with you an insight from Bro James Simpson’s devotional last Thursday. This really blessed my heart.

Something weird happened last night at church. My Mother-in-law stood up “I think” and said some very good things about me. I wanted to say something but on the other hand was kind of in shock I think and I didn’t really know what to say. God really showed me something in my heart about testimonies through that. I will start off by saying I am not a perfect man. I have also done a lot of bad and stupid things in my life. I actually still do a lot of bad and stupid things in my life now. The difference is that I am convicted by the Holy Spirit when I do something bad and stupid now and I have a desire to not do those things. We can all sit back and talk about how great we are, what we do,  and how much we love God etc… but, there is really so much more. I realized that it is not about what we say that makes a good testimony but, what is done.  My life changed 31/2 years ago and I do not want it to ever go back to the way it was. As a matter of fact I desire for my life to get closer and closer to God ever day. The change that God made in my life was not something that I could do on my own it is actually what He has done in me through the willingness to serve Him as my Father. I can say that I am not the same man I once was and so can anyone else. People that know who I was can see that I am not the same man I once was and that makes up my testimony. That makes more of an impact in others life then what we just say. What I say doesn’t matter but what people see I do does! I know I still make mistakes and I am not perfect but, my desire truly is to live for the Lord and not myself even if I ever fall into a temptation God loves me and has already forgave me. The point of all of this is that our testimonies can not just be about things we speak but, the change that God has made in our life which leads us to love and have works for Him. If you say you are going to do something it means nothing until it is actually done. We must live our lives for Jesus. We must listen and let Him change us because it is not something we can do. Is our testimony not made up through our faith? If so I want to leave you with this “without works our faith is dead”! God bless you and let your testimony be shown through your life! Have a wonderful day.

Hebrews 10:23   Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)

God bless you Bro James!

A CHRIST-LIKE ATTITUDE

Writing from a prison cell, the Apostle Paul penned the following verse, "Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ" (Philippians 1:27). In other words, no matter what unforeseeable distractions, frustrations, and inconveniences come your way, make sure that you respond with a Christ-like attitude. Paul later writes, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5). He also urges us in Ephesians 5:1-2 to be "Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us." Have you ever noticed how children love to "copy" everything they see and repeat everything they hear? In a similar way, we are encouraged to model Christ's behavior and to be clear reflections of the Lord.

Jesus always maintained a perfect attitude in every situation because He prayed about everything and worried about nothing. Prayer was His lifeline. He sought God's guidance about every aspect of His life and allowed the Lord to work out His perfect will without interference. Christ never became defensive, discouraged, or depressed because His goal was to please the Father rather than to achieve His own agenda. In the midst of trials, He was patient. In the midst of suffering, He was hopeful. In the midst of blessing, He was humble. Even in the midst of ridicule, abuse, and hostility He "reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:" (I Peter 2:23)

When people see you do they see the Lord in you? Are you reacting to your circumstances in the flesh or responding to life's challenges in the Spirit? God has called us to demonstrate the love of God through our responses to everyday difficulties. You too can have a Christ-like attitude by asking God for strength and wisdom to appropriately respond to every situation so that ultimately the Lord gets the glory.

Put on the whole armor of God

We are to maintain a state of spiritual vigilance. We are to be concerned about Spiritual forces, rulers of locations, and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6: 10-18).

Spiritual Warfare

Fasten the belt of truth around your loins and stand firm in the word of God. God's Word is truth. Christians need to know the truth. We put on the belt as we learn God's truth. Wherefore, take courage in face of trials and difficulties that come against you and hold your ground (1 Peter 1:13; John 8:32).

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 2:3).

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier (2 Timothy 2:4).

WHAT THE BIBLE SAY'S ABOUT...FINANCES?

If we are having problems in the area of our finances, we need to examine God's Word as to what He says about finances and then line up with that Word. Are we handling our money wisely? True wisdom comes from God and the Bible has revelation about money problems as well as our other problems.

So many people in our day are having financial problems. Even wealthy men are concerned they will lose their riches because of inflation and the worth of the dollar dropping daily. Stock markets around the world have been unstable.

Is there an answer to all the money problems? Yes, the Bible has the answer to this problem as well as all others that face mankind.

A total commitment to God is the very first step to financial blessings. However, there are many Christians who still have not gained the victory in finances due to other principles in God's Word that have been ignored. Let 's ask ourselves some questions that will bring us financial freedom if we are agreeing with the Word of God in these matters.

A FINANCIAL CHECK LIST

1. Are we giving at least 10% to the work of God which is the tithe? (If not, we are using God's money, and robbing Him.)

2. Are we giving to God first, before paying other bills?

3. Are we going in debt for lustful things? Wants, instead of needs?

4. Do we lack faith in God as our total source?

5. Are we seeking financial blessing instead of seeking God and His will? (Wanting God's benefits, but not God's ways.)

Money cannot save us from the tribulation of these last days; only our trust and faith in God will see us through.

A SOLID FOUNDATION

1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

On this past Friday morning I watched as the workers began to pour and then to finish the concrete slab for the new building. I thought about all the work and time that had went into the foundation for that slab. The understanding then came to me of the importance of the foundation.

You see, you don’t just go out – dig a hole in the earth – pour in concrete and then erect a building. As your building is designed, so is your foundation. Every detail of the building has been planned and accommodated for in the foundational engineering according to the Master builder’s plan.  In other words according to what the building one day will be, the foundation is being laid today.

Our lives in Christ are just the same. Our Supreme Master builder has a plan for our life. Because of our shortsightedness, we may not see what we shall be, but we simply must trust that the Architect has perfectly designed it. Every detail, He has taken into account. Nothing has been left to chance or overlooked.

Now, everyone will understand that we could not take our building and place it on a foundation that had been designed by someone other than our engineer or on a foundation that our engineer meant for another building. It just simply won’t work. Everything would be a disaster or the things that did fit would have to be adapted.

Jeremiah 29:11  “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Jesus Christ is our foundation and Master builder. He has a plan for you and He has designed the path that will bring about the completion of that plan. So stop trying to build on other foundation and trust that God’s plan is the right one for you, even though you may not see it now.

Pleasing One Another

From time to time someone will contribute an article to assist me in the Pastor’s Corner. This one is thanks to Bro. Jimmy Fulford

The church is to be a gospel place. At the center of all suffering, conflict, and interpersonal relationships the good news of Jesus Christ must pulsate. One of the most important questions that could be asked about our church is, “Are we declaring and living out the truth bound up in the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?”

A rehearsal of Romans 15:1-6 reveals how the great river of gospel truth flows into the life of the congregation. Like-mindedness to Christ is the key to how believers are to relate to one another when differences threaten peace. For this reason, it is vital that we ask ourselves questions to assess the degree to which we are gospel people.

The above questions are offered as a means of examining the changes and growth in the gospel work of pouring yourself into the spiritual completion of another. Sitting on the lower shelves of our minds should be the truth that the gospel is all about harmony.

ON ANY GIVEN DAY

To walk in faith is not an extraordinary feat reserved only for the fearless warriors of ancient times. In fact walking by faith has been the practice of many unsung heroes through the history of mankind and fear has been a big motivator in trusting God.

Noah, we are told, moved with fear and built an Ark and saved his family and civilization for that matter. Moses feared to go before Pharoah and demand that he let God’s people go but he went anyway and God did the impossible. Esther feared to go before her husband the king and plead for the Jews but she did and the Jewish race was once again spared. I could tell you of Gideon, David, Solomon, Mary the mother of Jesus, Peter and others who conquered their fear and walked in faith.

The important thing to grasp is that every one of these people were ordinary people like you and me. God uses ordinary folk who struggle with insecurities and faults to show forth His Glory and Power. To walk in faith is not a gift – it is a decision. A decision to believe that God will have His way and that is all we need to know. The acts of these heroes of faith did not come with a crystal ball to know the outcome of their circumstance but I think that Shadrach, Meshacch and Abednego said it all when they told King Nebuchadnezzar  Dan 3:17  If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

Dan 3:18  But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Not one of these people set out to be examples of faith in God. But just like them, God may choose to use you to be an example of faith pressing through your fear to the Glory of God Almighty – Any Ordinary Person On Any Given Day.

 D T R T

In our study on the Whole Armor of God I want to encourage each of you to engage yourself in this warfare with integrity. Below is a prayer that would serve each of us well at the beginning of each day.

Based upon the Holy Bible verses found at Ephesians 6:11-17, this prayer is for spiritual warriors.

THE WARRIOR’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Your warrior prepares for battle. Today I claim victory over Satan by putting on the whole armor of God! I put on the Girdle of Truth! May I stand firm in the truth of Your Word so I will not be a victim of Satan's and his demons' lies. I put on the breastplate of Righteousness! May it guard my heart from evil so I will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ. I put on the Shoes of Peace! May I stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through me and be a light to all I encounter. I take the Shield of Faith! May I be ready for Satan's fiery darts of doubt, denial and deceit so I will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat. I put on the Helmet of Salvation! May I keep my mind focused on You so Satan will not have a stronghold on my thoughts. I take the Sword of the Spirit! May the two edged sword of Your Word be ready in my hands so I can expose the tempting words of Satan.  By faith your warrior has put on the whole armor of God! I am prepared to live this day, in spiritual victory! In His most Holy Name!!! Amen

“And having done all, to stand!”

WHOM DO YOU TRUST?

As I was preparing my Pastor’s Corner for this week, I came across one of Bro. James Simpson’s daily email devotionals, I was so moved by it that I immediately knew that I must share it with you. I was affected because I am often tempted to place confidence in things other than my Lord. Every time I have trusted in other sources, I have been disappointed. So please read Bro James’ devotional carefully and ask yourself the tough question, “whom do I trust?”

Who do you trust in? Do you have confidence in the Lord? Well we need to have faith and trust in Him and Him alone. Often times people rely on others and we are not perfect and we often fail. Your trust might even be in a prayer that you prayed, your pastor, brothers and sisters, or yourself, all of which cannot be depended on all of the time especially if they are in a time in their life where they are not at all being led by the Lord!  You cannot even trust your GPS because it is not in control of changes but, the Lord is in control of all things. I know my GPS was off on July 4th because it was reading backwards as well as telling us that we were on different roads than we actually were. We cannot trust in our cars as they can breakdown but, God is all ways on time. He never breaks down! He knows exactly where we are at all times as He is updated before the update is even available. He is God!! There is no other like Him we are in His hands and mercy and all of our TRUST should be in Him! We should be confident that God's will for our life is in His hands. We should be confident that He is always there in every situation. Our Trust and Confidence should be focused on the one who is in control of all things! God bless you and have a great day! (See I failed to send this out yesterday like I was supposed to.)

Psalms 118:8   It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

Am I a Disciple of His?

Being a disciple of Christ has seemed to lose its passion in our modern society. Americans speak often about living a life of sacrifice. But do we really know what that means? May you be challenged, humbled, and exhorted as you read one fellow Christian’s declaration that caused me to stop and ponder my own determination or lack thereof.

I’m part of the fellowship of the unashamed. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I’m a disciple of His and I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past is redeemed. My present makes sense. My future is secure. I’m done and finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, or first, or recognized, or praised, or rewarded. I live by faith, lean on his presence, walk by patience, life by prayer, and labor by Holy Spirit power.

My face is set. My gait is fast. My goal is heaven. My road may be narrow, my way rough, my companions few, but my guide is reliable and my mission is clear. I will not be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice or hesitate in the presence of the adversary. I will not negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won’t give up, shut up, or let up until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and preached up for the cause of Christ.  I must give until I drop, preach all know, and work until He comes. And when He does come for His own, He’ll have no problems recognizing me.

Luke 9:23  And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

 VBS RULES

The week is finally over and Vacation Bible School 2011 was a huge success and loads of fun. When the week began I saw the faces of the children and realized that although we were just a little shy of the usual 50 attendees that we are accustomed to, the forty or so that we did have were almost entirely Lannie Road Baptist children. What a tremendous fact. We only accepted ages 4 – 12 and we almost met our maximum enrollment level.

Brothers and sisters we are blessed with children and with those who recognize the importance of investing ourselves and our resources into those children. May God richly bless each and every one of you. Our investment will come home again in dividends that cannot be measured for there is no greater treasure than our children.

As the week grew on I began to realize that VBS was not just about the children but I saw God in the activities of many of the adults and teenagers that volunteered for VBS.  Let me explain. I saw teens that would arrive early and help to set up the camp stations every single day without a complaint – what a blessing! I saw coaches that would think ahead to the next night and plan something a little special based on the age group for the next night. I also saw a few volunteers that would go the extra mile and come in during the mornings to tidy up the place, come in early in the afternoon to make sure that all the food was ready, or show up early to VBS and help with administrative duties, all this without being asked.

It was Jesus who told His disciples at the well of Samaria that “my meat is to do the will of Him that sent me.” My brothers and sisters, you will grow more spiritually mature by doing things in the name of the Lord than you ever will by just attending Bible studies or classes. When you lend yourself to God for the work of the ministry, it is you that ends up receiving the greatest blessing.

So congratulations to all of you doers. You are growing in the work of the Lord. Only God knows what you will volunteer to do next. The sky is the limit, for with God all things are possible.

ROLE OF THE CHRISTIAN FATHER

Father’s day is a day to celebrate the goodness of fatherhood. This is a day when we remember and honor our father’s love and commitment. As children, have you thanked your father for his love toward you? We are thankful for fathers’ support, guidance and love. We thank God that He has blessed us with special fathers.

A father is a good provider. As long as he is capable, he is willing to labor hard to provide shelter for his family, and food on the table. However, I strongly believe that Christian fathers are not judged by how much they earn or how many material goods they can provide. What does matter to his children, is how he introduces, educates, and guides them to Jesus Christ and how good a faithful Christian role model he is.

Fathers are very important in God’s plan for the family. Fathers have a wonderful opportunity to encourage, to warn, to teach, to counsel, and to model the Christian life for their children. The most important job for fathers is found in Deuteronomy chapter 6 to teach their children to always love and obey God. Paul said that fathers should raise their children in the training and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Christian fathers who do this will distinguish themselves from other fathers and will be obedient to God’s will. God desires that our children should be nurtured by fathers who love the Lord.

A man and his young son were climbing a mountain. They came to a place where the climbing was difficult and even dangerous. The father stopped to consider which way he should go. He heard the boy behind him say, “Choose the good path, Dad; I’m coming right behind you!”..As Christian fathers, are you doing your job? I am not talking about providing a cozy house, food for the table, and high education. By establishing the disciplines of worship, prayer, and Bible study in your own life, you’ll be prepared to integrate these into teachable moments with your children.

A father is the head of his family. A father does this, not out of insecurity, selfishness or pride, but out of the desire to be an obedient servant to God. (Ephesians 5:22) In this day and age when the concept of the family is under attack, and the role of the father is made light of, let us show our support of the institution of Fatherhood by loving and honoring our Fathers, and by being good Fathers; and by remembering and loving and honoring the greatest father of all - God the Father Almighty.

 IN MANY WAYS

It’s all so exciting to see the process of the building program moving forward again. With this excitement is the renewed realization that we must raise a lot of money in order to continue moving forward. We not only have material costs but there are some areas in which we must pay the professionals to do the work and keep up with the loan payment – all at the same time. I know that some folks already feel as though they are stretching themselves to the limits in order to contribute all they can to the Building Relationships Campaign. So I thought that I would share some enlightening news with you.

There are many ways in which you can very effectively contribute to the cause and some of these ways will not additionally affect your pocketbook. You will however have to get creative and maybe even contribute some of your time, talents and treasures. Here are examples of what some of our people have come up with to help the Building Fund: Several ladies have gotten together and recognized that they can fellowship, be creative and have fun while they create all sorts of jewelry designs together. They then sell them and give the proceeds to the building fund. And I’m not talking just a little money – it has been a couple of thousand at least. Sis Billie’s Sunday School class came up with the notion of hosting and serving a Spaghetti dinner and giving the profits to the Building Fund. The first time they sold like $1500 worth… so they did it again a few weeks later and it generated almost that amount again. That’s nothing to sneeze at. A couple of our men took the opportunity to gather some scrap metals including aluminum cans, some brass and some copper and they took their time to sell it at the scrap metal yard. Just this one trip produced almost $200 that all went to the building fund. Some of our other folks planned and worked a huge yard sale at the church that took up most of one week and overflowed the Fellowship hall. After weeks of preparation and hard work these people surrendered almost $3000 in profits to the building fund – plus we had quite a bit of goods left over to donate to Mission Harvest ministries after it was all said and done. Some other methods have been: preparing or buying lunch for our workers (especially the ones that are volunteering and donating their labor), picking up debris and dressing up the construction site and surroundings, some have offered tools and or materials and picked up and delivered them for our workers and (not least) some others have been great encouragers by just stopping by and telling our volunteers what a great job they are doing and acknowledging that you are praying for the Building program continuously.

You have been great through it all. And God is blessing more than I can even know myself. Let the Lord speak to you about your time, talents and treasures. Let Him utilize you to do more than you could have dreamed because we can participate in this project in many ways.

THE STORM IS COMING

It is a delightful spring day. A mocking bird is singing his favorite songs. The sun is brilliant. The sky is blue. Gradually, though, everything begins to change. The wind picks up, clouds move in, and then the air becomes still and an eerie yellowish hue fills the sky. The birds quit singing. A new bulletin flashes on the television, a siren pierces the silence. Funnel clouds have been sighted, moving in an easterly direction. The city is under a tornado warning.

People seem to be oblivious to what is happening. They are going to the ball fields, to the stores, to restaurants, and acting as if all is normal. What is going on? Simultaneously, it is as if no one is aware of the approaching swirling dark clouds, just a few miles away, twisting and tossing cars, destroying houses, ripping up trees, sending telephone poles through the air like straws in the wind. Yet the community goes on with life without taking the slightest precaution.

Think carefully about this. Your eternal destiny is hanging in the balance. God is revealed in the Bible as holy. He is without sin and fully committed to seeking His own honor. Where does this leave us? We have broken God’s law.

We human beings, the sinners that we are, need to be rescued from the judgment of God. Jesus Christ has made this possible. What must be done then? In order to receive the pardon that God offers, the sinner must ask God for salvation. Again, the Bible tells us what to do; “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The storm of God’s judgment is coming. This is certain. Are you living as if this is not true? The dark clouds are gathering. You must know that you are going to die. It will be too late then to receive God’s offer of forgiveness of sin and eternal life. Call out to God. Put your trust in Christ, the one who bore the punishment for your sins. Run to Christ as fast as you can. He is our only hope to save us from the wrath to come.

MEMORIAL DAY

Tomorrow we celebrate Memorial Day. This is a time when we stop and think about the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Here in America, most of the time we tend to take that freedom for granted. Sometimes I think that only those who have lived in countries where it is obvious that freedom is not free really can appreciate what that means. A generation or two have now grown up in an era when it is sheik to protest against and demean the honor of our military and the leaders of it. Many think nothing of their debasive language and attitude making themselves public representatives of the modern citizen. But I want you to realize that our freedom is worth fighting and dying for and then it must be diligently preserved. And those that died preserving it must be remembered with dignity and honor.

I have also been thinking today about how this holiday can be a reminder of the freedom I have in Jesus Christ. He paid the ultimate price to bring us liberty, and then He conquered death and promises eternal life to all who will believe on Him. This freedom cost me nothing, but it most certainly was not cheaply bought, it cost Him everything.

The same can be said of our American freedom that so many today take for granted. Most of us were born into it and have had it all of our lives and too often it becomes a common thing in our minds. For eternal freedom we must be born again, transformed into righteousness by the blood of Jesus Christ, and set free from sin and death. Let us make this Memorial Day a special one as we remember both our national freedom and our freedom in Christ. gave some… Some gave all!

Romans 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Ocean Pond

This Memorial Day coming, we will be spending it at Ocean Pond. This used to be an annual trip that the church took every year when my dad was pastor. We set a day aside every year just at the beginning of summer to have all the church family come together and have fun! This time was a picnic style gathering where we would swim, fish, boat ride, bicycle and have just good old fellowship! Eat as much as we could and just enjoying being together.

This has been a pass time for my family and I want us as a church to bring it back. The things we remember most are the times we spend with our family, having fun. That’s what we are you know. The Family of God! Let’s make memories together that will last. spending time together just having fun. I know that the Bible and Worship are the foundations that this family is built upon but fellowshipping together is what makes this house a home. I’m just sharing my heart; I hope you understand how much I love each one of you and how much being together as a family means to this Pastor’s heart. Please make family time a priority, as you would time with God, church and daily Bible reading. God gave us each other to love and cherish. Lets be what God made us to be, The Family of God! Come and be with your family, at Ocean Pond on May 30th, 2011

(here are the directions if needed)

Start out going Southwest on Lannie Rd. toward Lem Turner and go 1.2 miles, then turn left onto Lem Turner and go 4.9 miles and then merge onto I-295 South toward Daytona Beach, go 10.8 miles then merge on to I -10 W via exit 21B toward Lake City, go 32.6 miles, then take the US-90 W exit, exit 324 toward Olustee/ Lake City, go 0.3 miles, then turn left on to US-90 W and go approximately 10 miles to RD 231 (little store on left) turn right onto 231. You are now about 1 mile from the entrance to the Picnic Grounds Area. There will be a self-serve station on your right where you must pay $3 per vehicle for the day. Then just follow the signs to the picnic area. There are tables and restrooms available. If someone should happen to arrive early on the morning of the 30th you should try to hold as many tables as reasonable until the remainder of us arrive at 8 AM. We will be leaving a little before 7AM.

Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, towels, sunglasses and plenty to drink. Please remember that you are with your church – so dress as modestly as is reasonable. You may bring your boat, your fishing equipment (& license), bicycles, water toys, tubes, balls, frisbees and cameras if you desire. The church will furnish the hamburgers and hotdogs with the buns – you may bring the go-to-withs. We are planning to be there from 8AM until around noon but you may leave earlier or stay later as you please.

My contact info is inside this bulletin if you should have any questions or trouble on your trip to the lake.

 POURING OUT

I’m so excited!!! We have broke ground on our building project a year ago. Every since that very first day, I have been asked, “when are we going to get the building up?” I didn’t know the answer to that question back then – and I still don’t know today. But I do have some exciting news to share with you that will bring us one step closer to seeing it done. Here it is… the building slab is on its way.

After the initial bank loan, that allowed us to do the site work (pond, drainage, parking, septic and so on), we were going to move forward by raising the necessary funds first and then complete the next phase. About a month ago the Lord ask me to trust Him to provide for the slab. In my mind, I thought that was what I was doing by waiting for the funds first. But the Lord would not stop with His invitation to trust Him for the slab. After some consultation with my brethren – we contacted the concrete contractor and authorized him to start work on or around May 23rd on the slab.

Since then we have contacted the plumber, the electrician, the surveyor, the architect, the termite sprayer, the fire protection and HVAC people to make sure that we have got everything ready for the pouring out. This process could take as long as 3-4 weeks from the first day the contractor starts to prepare the pad.

So it is estimated that we will have the slab poured by mid to late June. This is a huge step for us because we have the building and it is already paid for the next step will be to erect it, that is after the concrete has time to cure.

So what about paying for the slab? The contractor has asked us to pay him for the labor and materials within 30 days of the completion of the slab. That should put the expectant payoff date to sometime in July. However, we are assured that when we are obedient to do as God commands that He will provide what we cannot.

More important than the construction of a building is the building up of our faith in our God and to see as God shows His marvelous power in the circumstances that will face us throughout this project. It will be the contractor pouring out the concrete but it will be God pouring out His blessings.  Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

MAMA’S PRAYER

There are many different gifts that will be given to the various moms today for Mother’s Day. The gifts vary because the moms all have differing tastes. But the one thing that is common to all moms is the desire to see their children be happy and successful. True success is found in trusting Jesus Christ as personal savior and that brings eternal happiness.

If you haven’t already done so… I would urge you to assure your mom that you have made it right by trusting Jesus. This will answer her prayer and be the absolute best gift Mother’s day gift ever. May God bless you.

HELLO MAMA

Hello Mama, I just called to tell you,

All those tears you shed for me, they were not in vain.

You see, something happened last night,

While travelling down a country road;

I thought that you should be the first to know

That I'm not the same.

Oh, I can still remember

Every night before you'd go to sleep,

I'd hear you pray the Lord my soul to keep,

That I might find the way;

And I'm so thankful that through

My loneliness and wasted years

Mama those prayers kept ringing in my ears

Every night and day.

All those dreary days are over now,

Those sleepless nights are passed;

All those prayers that you had prayed so long,

They're answered now at last.

For I am not the man I used to be,

And Mama, you can sleep tonight;

For I found Jesus and now everything's all right.

For I am not the man I used to be,

And Mama, you can sleep tonight;

For I found Jesus and now everything's all right.

It's all right!

I thought you’d like to know.

SERVANT-STEWARDSHIP

Christians and their giving is one of the most difficult areas for Pastors to teach about effectively. Many try to make it all about the church (or the pastor) just wanting their money and others want to believe that their money has nothing to do with their worship of God.

I read a sermon concerning servant – stewardship and it was interesting to me that the writer said: “I know, today is Stewardship Sunday. I am supposed to tell you to tithe or give 10% of your income to the church. OK, you should give 10% of your income to the church. If we all did that then the one step chart would look a lot different and this church could do a lot more. But I am talking about something more important than money. I am talking about your life: your time, your talents, your heart, your soul… Give them all to God. Surrender yourself totally and trust Him to care for you. After that money will not be an issue.”

Looking back over my life I began to realize that I had given the Lord my money, long before I ever trusted Him with my heart, just because I knew it was right. That’s right… I tithed and served Him long before I got saved.

Since trusting the Lord with all your heart is a bit of an intangible thing (just between you and God) I believe that the process listed in the 37th Psalm would support a more Biblical approach. Psa 37:3-5  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

That is: Trust in the Lord and do good and you will be blessed; then, Delight thyself in the Lord and He will begin to change that heart of yours; so that you may then Commit your way unto the Lord and watch Him as He reveals Himself in and through your life. Do what you know to be right to do and He will bring it to pass. One day the giving will become a delight for you. Then someday He will show Himself through every aspect of your life. The path to a truly blessed and happy life can be found by just doing what you know is right even before you feel it. Today is a good day to start. Remember, it’s not yours anyway but you will be held accountable for how you managed it.

HE’S ALIVE

It’s Resurrection Day. The most important of all days to the believer. This is the day that we celebrate the indisputable fact of the empty tomb. Some call it Easter and that’s OK but the greatest crowning work of God was the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the tomb – Hallelujah!!

The reason that the empty tomb is so important is many fold. The empty tomb proves that:

·   The Father has accepted the sacrifice of His own Son’s blood as the atonement for all mankind.

·   Death has been defeated and must surrender the spirits of those who trust in Christ.

·    The Grave has no power to hold the transformed bodies of the believers.

·    The curse of sin has been broken by the Sinless One.

·    Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God (just as He said).

·    The Roman Authorities had no power over the plan of God.

·    The Roman Soldiers were no match for Heaven’s Angels.

·    He is Alive by many infallible proofs.

·    Because He Lives we shall live also.

·    Even if you choose to not believe, you can’t keep a good man down.

Every believer needs to see this day as a great source of hope and encouragement. There is NO weapon that is formed against us that can prosper. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus who loved us. Nothing can separate us from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus.

He is Alive and it is a fact. There is overwhelming evidence to  prove that He is Alive. Testimonies of the Angels, the soldiers, the women, the disciples over 500 people at one gathering, Paul saw Him and I have met Him. In fact, I just spoke to Him this morning. Happy Resurrection Day.

Act 1:3  To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

COMMUNION

I have provided the following information to you to assist you in understanding what we are doing today and why. The scripture being referenced are I Corinthians 11:20-34

What is Communion?

One of two Ordinances: Communion and Baptism. Also known as “The Lord’s Supper” is a remembrance of the deliverance provided to all mankind through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. (Like the Passover meal was to the Israelites in the Exodus)

Why is Communion important?

Jesus commanded us to observe it until He returns. It causes a man to examine himself inwardly. It reminds us of the price Christ paid for our Redemption

Who should partake in Communion?

Only born-again, baptized believers walking in good conscience before the Lord

Who should not partake in Communion?

The unsaved, saved but not baptized, the rebellious and disobedient whether saved or unsaved.

Who should serve Communion?

The deacons (servants of the church), ordained and right with God.  If deacons are not available, any servant-minded believer may serve the others.

How should Communion be received?

Reverently, reflectively & spiritually (not feasting)

Why do we use unsweetened grape juice and unleavened bread?

Grape juice is the “fruit of the vine” when it has been crushed. Unsweetened represents the purity of His blood. Leaven is symbolic of sin and there was NO sin found in Him at all. Unleavened bread, representing His flesh, is bitter and becomes broken pieces as a brutal reminder of the awesome price that Jesus bore in His body for our sins.

EKKLESIA

There is a misperception that the world has about the Church and that is that the Church is an organization formed for the purpose of religious practices. Unfortunately, I believe that the church of modern times is largely responsible for substantiating this misperception by the way that the members of our churches treat their membership in the Body of Christ. Christians of this modern age shop for their church home as though they are comparing prices and benefits for some material goods or seeking to join some type of club.

When Christ established the church, He gave us the method of becoming a part of the Church and that is by the new birth. You can’t just join the Church – you must be born into it. God’s church is not an organization… it is an organism. The difference is that an organism is alive and all parts seek to serve the whole. This is the Body of Christ. It is put together as it pleases God.

Ekklesia means “a called out assembly”. We are called by God to love and serve one another. We are to do whatever is necessary to help each other in a time of need or be there for each other and whomever God places in our path. We are here to serve and love just as Jesus exampled to us while he was here. We are the body of Christ, doing God’s will, the way God wants it done. In John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave”. He gave everything for the ones he loved, which is us, The Body of Christ. We are to do the same. Love one another as Christ loved us.

TRUE REST

Mat 11:28-30  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Most of the time invitations are exclusive. A few people are invited to State Dinners at the White House. The rest of us stand outside the gates. A few people have tickets to the Super Bowl or World Series. The rest of us watch on TV. A few people have direct access to the company president. The rest of us send an email to his assistant and hope for the best. But it is not so with the invitation from the Creator God of this whole universe; Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Just savor those words – especially the word  “all.” Our Savior speaks to “all” who labor and are heavy burdened. Does this include you? This goes beyond just needing one good nights sleep or some hopeful thinking to ward off those nagging worries that weigh us down. This is real relief from the burdens of your life.

I think it’s important to realize that He did not say that the circumstances would be erased but that we would find help in bearing them. The type of help that brings blessed peace and much needed rest to our souls. The goal is not to fix our issues of life but to exchange them for his burden which He carries the lion share of the load.

We worry and become burdened about the things that God has already promised that He would take care of for us. So, here Christ asks us to forsake those vain pursuits and join in the labor to carry the burden of the Gospel into all the world. It is when we change our focus to what really matters that we will find true rest.

CONSOLATION

The way to be lifted up or exalted is by lifting up others. The apostle Paul writes to the church at Philippi and exhorts them to strive together for the unity of the body of believers in the same love by being in one mind and one accord. He goes on to instruct them to look beyond themselves and let every man esteem his brother as better than himself.

He then points out that our example, Jesus Christ, did exactly that with consideration to the Father and the result is that the Father has highly exalted His Son above every name and every creature.

Php 2:1  If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies.

Php 2:2  Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Php 2:3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Php 2:4  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Php 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Php 2:6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

Php 2:7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Php 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Php 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus humbled himself and became obedient, that’s where it starts.

TEMPERANCE

2Pe 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

2Pe 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

2Pe 1:4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2Pe 1:5  And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

2Pe 1:6  And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

2Pe 1:7  And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

2Pe 1:8  For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Pe 1:9  But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

2Pe 1:10  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

I have given you these scriptures today for I feel that they say more to promote the path to Spiritual fruit than this pastor could ever declare. Verse 4 says that we are made partakers of the divine nature, that is The Holy Ghost in us, giving us the ability to overcome the corruption we experience through the old nature, that is our human spirit. Once we receive this knowledge we should exercise temperance (self-control) and then just hold fast (patience or endurance) until the fruit of godliness, brotherly kindness

and love manifests itself in our daily life.

FORGETTING

This past Wednesday the Lord spoke a wonderful truth to my spirit concerning the letting go of things of my past and experiencing fruitfulness in the place of my affliction. The message is embedded in the scriptural account of the life of Joseph and his experience in the land of Egypt in particular. When Joseph was finally able to forgive and forget the trials and troubles of his life past, he began to experience great fruitfulness beyond his wildest dreams. Joseph marked this milestone in his life by naming his son Manasseh, meaning: causing to forget.

One of the greatest gifts that God has offered to His children is the ability to FIDO (Forget It & Drive On). Unfortunately it is also one of the most underutilized abilities and underappreciated gifts that the Lord has bestowed upon us. Many of us today are living in the bondage of unforgiveness because we cannot forgive the past.

God has spoken to me that we may not ever experience fruitfulness in our lives unless we can forget. We hold on to troubles as if they are a birthright to fail at everything that we have ever dreamed of. Instead of choosing to FIDO so that we can allow God blessings to be manifested in our lives. This means that the blessings are already waiting for us and that they may be hindered only by our unwillingness to FIDO.

Will you allow God to set you free and bless you beyond measure? Then you must forget the past. What will it be?

Php 3:13-14  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

TIME TO SERVE

This coming weekend is one of the biggest annual events that we have here at Lannie Road Baptist. We will be interacting with hundreds of people from the community, other churches, our own church and even from out of town. There is gospel music, testimonies, one on one fellowship, good food and a time to serve.

The spirit of this gathering started and continues in the tradition of fellowship, witnessing and serving. We open up our facilities, our budgets and our hearts to work alongside of fellow believers and to impact the lives of others who may not attend church. Therefore, to them, we become the definition of what a Christian really is. Wow!!!

So -- it’s time to serve! I exhort you to set aside being served and seek to serve others throughout this whole day. You may be challenged at times to keep an attitude of kindness and love. But here is the secret…

Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

If you’ve ever been in a bad mood and had someone to just really go out of their way to do something for you, then you probably remember how it made your day. You will remember their kindness toward you for a long time to come! That’s what we want to do this Saturday. We want to impact somebody’s life so that they will not be able to forget how your love and kindness impacted them.

It’s time to serve; will you make time to serve?

THE VALUE OF A CHILD

Mark 10:13-16 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

How many times have you heard the story of Jesus’ welcoming of the children? Have you heard it so many times that you don’t really think about it anymore? That’s kind of how I am. So I am taking this opportunity to not only honor our children but to encourage all those who work so lovingly with them week in – and week out.

But if you really stop to consider this brief incident in Jesus' life, the implications are huge! It’s huge because it’s not just that Jesus stopped His adult conversation to take time for some children, or that He actually physically picked up the children and prayed for them. Think about this: As adults, we’re always looking to the future. We give in to the pressure of pushing little ones hurriedly through the present so they can reach their more significant future. We say, “Children are valuable because they are the future leaders of the church and the world.” Or, “Our children’s ministry is important because if we can reach kids for Jesus, we can reach their parents, too!” And it's true. Those things are valid reasons for quality children’s ministry.

But you know what? Children are more than people waiting for some future date of real meaning. And that’s what this familiar story helps us learn. Jesus saw something in childhood besides the future. He saw the worth and value in being a child. Jesus welcomed children so that all would know that children are important for what they are right now. Childhood is not a disease to be cured or endured. It's a super cool, God-ordained part of human life!

So take time this week to look with Jesus’ eyes at the children in your lives, and the children you teach. Accept them as they are, not as you wish they were. Be understanding of what these special years are all about. Make sure your classroom, the activities you plan, and the words you say wholeheartedly welcome each young child—just as Jesus did!

God bless the children and those who teach them…

 ON ANY GIVEN DAY

To walk in faith is not an extraordinary feat reserved only for the fearless warriors of ancient times. In fact walking by faith has been the practice of many unsung heroes through the history of mankind and fear has been a big motivator in trusting God.

Noah, we are told, moved with fear and built an Ark and saved his family and civilization for that matter. Moses feared to go before Pharaoh and demand that he let God’s people go but he went anyway and God did the impossible.

The acts of these heroes of faith did not come with a crystal ball to know the outcome of their circumstance but I think that Shadrach, Meshacch and Abednego said it all when they told King Nebuchadnezzar

Dan 3:17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

Dan 3:18  But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Not one of these people set out to be examples of faith in God. But just like them, God may choose to use you to be an example of faith pressing through your fear to the Glory of God Almighty – On Any Given Day.

WILL YOU BE MINE?

Hebrews 8:10  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people

There will be a lot of cards given out this week that will ask the question, “Will you be mine?” Many hearts will be thrilled with the answer that they receive and many other hearts will be left to mourn for a love lost when no answer is returned.

The greatest love of all has been offered to everyone, everywhere. The Bible teaches us that God is patient and longsuffering – not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. No one has ever loved you like Jesus nor will there ever be anyone to love you like Jesus.

His heart is thrilled by those who return a “yes” answer to His invitation, “Will you be mine?” He has given His all for us and has predetermined that He will be our God and we (who believe) will be His people. However there will also be sadness to the heart of our God because of those will not respond.

There is no mystery in that we should love Him, but I am amazed that He would love us.

1 Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

1 Jn 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Jesus is calling you today. He desires to receive your answer. He will be your God if you will be His people.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

When we are His sheep, we have great privileges and benefits that are doted on us according to His good will. These inherent blessings are unmistakably earmarks that are characteristic only of the true followers of Christ. His sheep know His voice and follow Him. They will not follow a stranger. They are spiritually secure. And they have peace with God.

John 10:10 tells of the thief that comes to steal those that are loosely following the fold. His intention is to divert from Christ the affection of all souls who would love Him apart from the destructive interference of the thief. Those he cannot steal away, he seeks to destroy. He will steal away their love for God’s Word. He will pollute their desire for fellowship with the Church. He has none other desire but to steal, kill and to destroy. And unfortunately he has been way too successful for us to just rest easy.

We will continually seek to draw nearer to the Good Shepherd. We will hear His voice and follow His Word. His desire and actions are in total opposition to the thief. The thief steals, the Good Shepherd gives. The thief kills, The Good Shepherd gives life to those who were dead. The thief destroys, the Good Shepherd restores.

Rejoice ye sheep of His pasture, embrace His Word and relish in the fellowship of His Church. Determine not to remain on the outer perimeter looking in but to press hard to the center of where Christ abides. There you will find safety and security for your soul. Come and drink of the water of life freely.

OBEYING GOD

Most of you already know and the rest are hearing about it today. Bro Ray Swanson announced to our Sunday Night congregation, last week, that he has felt for some time that the Lord would have him to concentrate on ministering through his anointed teaching and to renounce the call of being a preacher. Therefore, he has resigned his position as our Associate Pastor, but not as our beloved brother and Adult Sunday School teacher. Bro Ray’s contribution to our church has been immeasurable and will continue to be as long as the Lord allows.

It is difficult to embrace changes as good for us when they’re not what we want but when they are the will of God – they are not only good but necessary for the continued blessings of our God to flow upon us. So we too, have chosen to obey God and accept this change as part of what the Lord has intended for us all along. It is an admirable step that Bro Ray has taken and it is worthy of our acceptance.

This leads me to ask you, “Are you doing what God has called you to do?” Have you been inactive and disobedient to God’s will and way in your life and still expecting God to bless you? Please consider your way. You should know, the only acceptable answer for a servant to give the Master is “Yes, Lord.” If you are serving in one capacity but you know that God wants you in another position, say, “Yes, Lord” and do it. If you haven’t embarked on the task at all, say, “Yes, Lord” and do it. And if you’re in a God – appointed position but you haven’t given Him your all, say, “Yes, Lord” and do it.  There is just No Substitute for obeying God.

1Sa 15:22  And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

1Sa 15:23  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
